Sindh Agriculture University, Tandojam (Hyderabad) Sindh

Degree continued Our ultimate objective within the Department of Agronomy is to make crop production more efficient, more productive, and economically and environmentally sustainable. Being an Irrigation Agronomist, we can grow “In Sha Allah” more and more food and feed for the survival of human beings and animals. To enhance my skills and potential by working in an environment that is conducive to learning, hear work and creative things and i wish to apply academics knowledge to challenging takes leading to growth and development of organization. Primitive human lived on wild plants and animals. They started facing starvation due to increase in food demand with the increase in number. The domestication of botanical plants and their cultivation marks the dawn of civilization. Modern crop production is the application of the principles of physical, biological and social sciences for growing of domesticated plants to meet the diversity of human needs in a profitable manner. It is a continuous challenge to increase the crop yields to remain ahead of human population increase. The dynamic process of crop production is now facing the challenge of global climatic change. New potent crop varieties and technologies must be explored for the survival of ever-increasing people on limited resource base under various climatic conditions. The continuous concern in crop production is to use optimally the resources necessary for crop production in a sustainable manner. The sustainable use of resources implies current utilization in an optimum way saving their productivity for the use of future generations. Why Become an Agronomist? Be an Agronomist! Agronomists are plant and soil scientists who develop innovative farm practices and technologies that not only boost crop yields but also control pests and weeds and protect the environment. Agronomists are also professional practitioners, educators, and advisers who work directly with farmers, companies, and others in the age community to implement the latest methods and tools for growing crops profitably and sustainably. Agronomists play critical roles in issues of global concern, such as food security. But the reach of agronomists and agronomy doesn’t end on the farm. Agronomists also play critical roles in issues of global concern, including food and water security, air quality and climate change, soil loss and degradation, health and nutrition, and many others. A future as an agronomist is exciting and promising! With the right education, training, and commitment to the profession, there are many good paying jobs and opportunities. If you have a natural curiosity and enthusiasm for science to help solve some of the toughest problems facing humanity and want to be part of the efforts to increase the supply of high-quality food, feed, fiber, fuel and even pharmaceuticals while protecting and preserving the environment – agronomy may be the career for you! Career paths include advising, teaching, research, sales, marketing, and agribusiness. There are jobs in rural and urban areas and around the world. Find out more on our Careers page. N Field Inspection in Illinois (ASA) Agronomy Feeds the World Videos The American Society of Agronomy has created videos to convey what agronomy is and its importance in meeting the food needs of our world. A career in agronomy will keep you in the center of efforts to increase the global supply of high-quality foods, feed, fiber, fuel, and pharmaceuticals while protecting and preserving the environment. You will use your enthusiasm for science to help solve some of the toughest problems facing humanity; safe and abundant food production. What is Agronomy? Aerial View of Agricultural Land every day, everyone is affected by agronomy. The food you eat, the coffee you drink, the ethanol-based gas in your car, the grass on the golf course, the natural fibers of the clothing you wear all are products of agronomy and the work of agronomists. Agronomy is a science and a practice that looks at agriculture from an integrated, holistic perspective. In agronomy, it’s important to understand the properties of the soil and how the soil interacts with the growing crop; what nutrients (fertilizers) the crop needs and when and how to apply these nutrients; the ways that crops grow and develop; how climate and other environmental factors affect the crop at all stages; and how best to control weeds, insects, fungi, and other crop pests. If that weren't enough, another huge consideration in agronomy is how to grow crops effectively and profitably while conserving natural resources and protecting the environment. In short, growing crops requires collaborations among many, many fields, including the traditional soil, plant, and weed sciences, as well as related disciplines such as ecology, entomology, climatology, and economics. The best crop production methods are always grounded in scientific research. As a result, they are by nature continually evolving and improving. As an Agronomist, you can use your natural curiosity and enthusiasm for science to help solve some of the toughest problems currently facing humanity. A career in agronomy will keep you in the center of scientific efforts to increase the supply of high-quality food, feed, fiber, and energy, as well as protecting and conserving our environment. Agronomists today are involved with many issues such as the production of food and feed, the environmental impacts of crop production, erosion, wetland management, wise use of natural resources, sustainable agriculture, and nitrate and pesticide contamination of food and water. The important challenge lying ahead for the agronomist is to increase or maintain production of wholesome agricultural products while conserving our environment for use by countless future generations. The implications are global.
