Responsibilities of the Scientific Officer
As a Scientific Officer, you will have a range of responsibilities that include but are not limited to:
- Research & Development: Design, develop, and conduct research on microbial soil biofactors, biopesticides, and nano-fertilizers. This role will also involve the testing of bio and nano-based materials to improve agricultural products.
- Leadership: Lead applied research teams and manage projects, ensuring that team members work effectively to meet deadlines.
- Experimental Design: Create and analyze experimental and validation plans to ensure accurate research outcomes.
- Field Trials: Design and oversee field trials for agricultural products, including the development of protocols for planting, treatment applications, and data collection.
- Product Development: Participate in the production of bio/nano fertilizers and biopesticides, while monitoring their environmental impact and suggesting improvements.
- Data Management: Collect, monitor, and keep records of field data and research findings, ensuring accuracy and proper documentation.
- Collaboration: Work with interdisciplinary teams and provide expert advice on project progress and outcomes.
Required Qualifications and Experience
The qualifications required for the Scientific Officer position are as follows:
- Education: A PhD in Biotechnology, Synthetic Biology, Metabolic Engineering, or Nanotechnology is required. Candidates with an MBA and knowledge of agro-market and value chain systems are preferred.
- Experience: 3-5 years of experience in product design, development, and experimental validation is required. The ideal candidate should have expertise in agricultural biotechnology, nanotechnology, and related research fields.
Skills Required
The role of a Scientific Officer requires a diverse skill set, including:
- Research Expertise: Extensive experience in designing and developing bio/nano-based agricultural products such as biofertilizers and biopesticides.
- Leadership: Strong leadership abilities, with experience in managing research teams and projects in applied research environments.
- Project Management: Proven experience in managing research projects, including planning, execution, and oversight.
- Field Trial Design: Ability to design, conduct, and analyze field trials for agricultural products, particularly bio and nano-based materials.
- Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in using computational modeling tools such as Molecular Docking, FASTA, BLAST, PyRx, and Autodock Vina.
- Statistical Analysis: Knowledge of statistical analysis software like R, SAS, and SPSS is required to analyze experimental data.
- Public Speaking & Reporting: Strong public speaking skills are necessary for presenting research findings. The ability to maintain detailed documentation and deliver progress reports is also important.
- Work Ethic: A strong work ethic, attention to detail, and commitment to delivering high-quality research are critical for success in this role.
