Required Qualifications & Experience

Qualification Criteria

1. Master’s degree (First Division) in Translation Studies from a university recognized by the Higher Education Commission (HEC).

2. Master’s degree (Second Division) in English with a specialization in translation from an HEC-recognized university.

3. Graduate (Second Division) with a Diploma in Translation (minimum six months) from an HEC-recognized university.

Experience Requirements

1. Two years of practical experience in translation from English to Urdu is required if applying with a graduate degree and a diploma in Translation.

2. Experience in private sector companies will be accepted if the company is registered with SECP, Registrar of Firms, or another regulatory authority.

3. Only post-qualification experience will be considered.

Job Responsibilities of a Translator

1. Translating official government documents, policies, and reports from English to Urdu.

2. Ensuring accuracy, context, and cultural appropriateness in translations.

3. Translating legal texts and technical terms from English to Urdu and vice versa.

Selection Process & Examination Details

Paper I (Objective Type)

1. English Linguistics – 30 Marks

2. Urdu Linguistics – 30 Marks

3. Translation Studies – 30 Marks

4. Computer Skills – 10 Marks

Paper II (Subjective Type)

1. Translation of an English paragraph into Urdu

2. Translation of legal text and terms into Urdu

3. Understanding of linguistic terms and context

4. Translation of Urdu text into English

Passing Criteria

1. Candidates must obtain 40% marks in each paper and 50% overall to qualify for an interview.

2. In the interview, candidates must secure 50% marks to be eligible for the final merit list.

3. Negative marking applies – 0.25 marks will be deducted for each incorrect answer in MCQ-based papers.

4. Candidates are allowed only three attempts for this examination.
